MAKERS Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the MAKERS program, an applicant must:

To be eligible for the MAKERS program, an applicant must:

 

  1. Be a US citizen, permanent resident of the US or a refugee alien.
     

  2. Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (all applicants). 
     

  3. Be enrolled full time (i.e., 12 credits) in one of the following STEM discipline: biological sciences (except medicine and other clinical fields), physical sciences (including physics, chemistry, astronomy, and materials science), mathematical sciences, computer and information sciences, geosciences, engineering, and technology areas associated with the preceding fields (biotechnology, chemical technology, engineering technology, information technology, etc.).  
     

  4. Demonstrate financial need as defined by each institution of the partnership. Each institution will work in conjunction with their Financial Aid Office to determine financial need. The same criteria used to determine eligibility for federal student aid (difference between Expected Family Contribution and Expected Attendance Costs) will be used to determine eligibility for the program. Applicants will be asked to submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid Form (FAFSA®). 

Program Benefits

  • An annual scholarship of up to $10,0000 renewable for up to 3 years. 

  • Support during the school year through a co-curricular mentoring Bridge program that promotes academic skills in Scholars  

  • Preparatory experiences for the STEM Workforce for Scholars by addressing community-based problem and prototype development

  • Skills-building opportunities (21st Century and Technical competencies) 

  • Networking opportunities

Maintaining Eligibility 

Program participants must:
  1. Continue to be enrolled in one of the STEM disciplines served by the MAKERS program 
     

  2. Demonstrate continued financial need 
     

  3. Demonstrate continued academic excellence. A minimum 3.00 GPA (overall and in STEM classes) is required to continue in the program  
     

  4. Have participated in all required MAKERS program activities through the year
