What are the benefits to participate in the MAKERS project?

  • Earn a scholarship: MAKERS Scholars are provided with scholarships of upto $10,000 for upto 8 consecutive academic semesters provided they maintain eligibility requirements.

  • Receive year-round mentoring: MAKERS Scholars will participate in numerous mentoring opportunities and will be provided with resources throughout the academic year to help cope with the rigors of College and to receive support with the comprehension of STEM course content through traditional and virtual means.
  • Gain awareness of existing opportunities: MAKERS Scholars will be provided assistance with search for summer research internships, including those in the industry, National Labs and NSF funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs). Assistance will also be provided to find suitable conferences for participants to present their research.

  • Receive preparation for graduate school and the workforce in STEM: MAKERS Scholars will receive preparation for STEM graduate school through workshops on GRE preparation, Literature Search and Technical Writing, and Proposal Development. Scholars will receive preparation for the STEM workforce by gaining professional experiences through year-long STEM industry-type activities on MAKERS campuses. These professional experiences are designed for scholarship recipients to acquire skills that are critical in industry settings such as working in groups on long term STEM-based projects assigned by Consortium faculty mentors, leadership building, delegation of tasks and preparing technical reports.
